MY STORY

Growing up in a family of musicians and artists, I never realized I was an entrepreneur at heart.

But after graduating with a degree in theatre arts from Columbia University, I quickly gravitated towards the business and production sides of that scrappy New York City industry.

Being high energy and extremely extroverted, I naturally took to roles in management and leadership. Within two years of graduating, I co-founded a production company and an independent theater magazine. During this time, I was also fortunate to land a side gig with an amazing inventor, who helped me begin to see creative opportunities outside of theater.

When the dot-com boom arrived in the early 2000s, I left theater for corporate event production. Then in 2006, I leapt fully into the business of technology, co-founding Singlebrook—a custom software services company in Ithaca, New York. For 10 years I served as CEO, growing the company to 35 employees, achieving B Corp certification and serving Fortune 500 clients, Ivy League universities, startups and nonprofits like the Sierra Club and the Environmental Defense Fund.

Along the way, I discovered my passion for sharing what I’ve learned with aspiring business leaders.

This has led me to mentor hundreds of other founders. I’ve also created three networking organizations, served on numerous commercial and nonprofit boards, judged dozens of innovation contests, and delivered guest lectures at schools like Columbia and Cornell. My success and rarity as a female leader in technology has garnered coverage in The New York Times, The Washington Post and USA Today, plus drawn invitations for speaking engagements across the U.S.

In 2016, I oversaw the acquisition of Singlebrook’s largest division, giving myself the opportunity to begin a more purpose-driven career phase. As a mother, I worry about the state of the world my daughters and their children will face. Even for a proud “overachiever” like myself, the global challenges feel overwhelming at times. I know firsthand that technology and innovation can generate solutions, but only if all the necessary stakeholders are represented at the table.

As a successful woman in technology, I saw that diversity and inclusion is a problem I’m uniquely able to address.

So the next act of my story involves guiding investments to impactful technologies, women founders and other underrepresented groups. To begin this work, I co-founded Chloe Capital, a movement-driven venture capital firm on a mission to decrease the gender and diversity gap in entrepreneurship and venture capital.

In addition to continued business mentoring, I also helped establish the Investment Advisory Board at NY State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) where I serve as an Innovation Advisor. I’m now also an Entrepreneurship Instructor for the National Science Foundation and an Entrepreneur in Residence at Cornell University. But the story is far from over, so stay in touch!
